New Year's in Nanaimo

By Matt Perkins, 5:14 PM

Greg outdid himself with this one. Click the pic for the large version.

The poster pretty much explains it all, so I'll just add that we promise to put on a kick-ass show for anyone who attends.

See you there!

Matt

Plans for the New Year

By Fred, 1:31 AM

Greeting and Salutations!

So, I figured that for my first blog ever, I would keep it simple, and let everyone know what our plans are for the rest of this year.

We will be rehearsing tomorrow, with the intention of getting our latest batch of songs ready.  Currently we are working on Inch an Hour, Lake Fever, Lonely End of the Rink, Gus the Polar Bear From Central Park, and Born in the Water.  We rehearsed the songs as a group for the first time last week, and, in a surprising turn of events, the songs came together very quickly.  Greg was the first to make observation that the chemistry the five of us have is starting to reap some rewards.  Also, there is a feeling of beginning to understand how these songs need to be played.  As always, my thanks goes out to Paul, Gord D., Gord S., Rob, and Johnny for creating such amazing music that not only is a pleasure to listen to, but also an inspiration in my own musical journey.   Needless to say, we should have several of these new songs in the set for our next shows.

Those shows will be the 19th and 20th of  December at the Great Bear Pub in Burnaby.  Peter and the gang there have been very kind to us, and in return we have put on some great shows thus far.  These next two will be no exception.  I do hope that anyone who is able to attend will do so!

After that, we will be preparing set lists and rehearsals for our first New Years show!  All of us in the band realized recently that our 1 year anniversary is occurring right around now.  Time flies, and I must say, I'm extremely proud of all that we've accomplished in this short time, and am really looking forward to what the future has in store.  Anyway, the New Years show will be in Nanaimo.  We don't have many details right now, but as they become available, we will update you on the website, as well as facebook and myspace.

Other than that,  in the new year we will probably generate another list of five songs to learn, and continue on from there.  There are also plans to do some more recorded versions of a few songs to add to the website, as well as a new video.  While the much discussed original music jam has not occurred, there is no pressure, and only time will tell.

That's all for now.  Until next time,

Fred

Welcome to our blog!

By Matt Perkins, 12:06 PM

Hello Internet. This is Matt, lead guitarist and Vice President of Blogging for Hipeponymous. We're excited to have a place on our site where we can interact with you a bit.

In the coming weeks and months, you will see some cool things start to show up here. We'll post band news, set lists from previous gigs, photos, videos, live recordings, and anything else that might interest you. We'll also share a few insights about what it's like to be in a Tragically Hip tribute band, our thoughts about music, and how we go about playing it. Last, but not least, you might occasionally see posts about the actual Tragically Hip on here. They are, after all, why we're all here reading this page.

I will definitely be posting again, and you can also look forward to contributions from Kevin, Greg, Fred, and Todd.

Don't forget to check the Show Dates page for upcoming live shows. Up next is another two night stand at the Great Bear Pub in December. We really enjoy playing there, and I'm sure we'll put on a great show. We also have a New Year's gig in the works. It will be in Nanaimo. We'll pass along more info when we have it.

Later!

Matt
